Dr. Vijay Seshadri

MD - Psychiatry

Dr. Vijay Seshadri is a Senior Consultant Psychiatrist practicing in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad for the last 17 years. He is primarily an adult Psychiatrist who works in a number of clinical settings. The work involves intervention in individuals with primary mental health issues and also in those with multiple medical co-morbidities while liaising with other medical specialties. After working for about 15 years at CARE group of hospitals, he helped set up a multidisciplinary team of Mental health Professionals at Chetana Hospital which includes Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists and Counsellors. As a Clinical Director he is involved in optimizing clinical service protocols for not only individuals with mental health needs but also towards helping family members in coping and dealing with the challenges with posed by mental health issues such as anxiety and related disorders, obsessive compulsive and related disorders, depression and mood disorders, bipolar affective disorder, schizophrenia and psychotic spectrum disorders, psychosomatic disorders, sleep disorders, psychosexual disorders and delirium, dementia and memory impairment disorders among others. He also deals with the evaluation and management of complex neuro-psychiatric problems and substance abuse disorders.

Besides clinical practice he has also been involved in a variety of research projects-clinical and multi centric international drug trials as both a Co-Investigator and Principal Investigator. He has also been an active researcher in both community based and hospital based studies. He has been a Co-investigator in "CRESSI"-one of the largest comprehensive studies on Epilepsy in a rural community in India, which helped in studying medical, social and economic aspects of epilepsy and related services in the community, in India. He has presented papers on various topics related to Psychiatry and Neurology in national and International conferences.

Current places of practice

1.Chetana hospital:

It is one of the few exclusive mental health units in the city managed by a team of Psychiatrists there by providing round the clock coverage by a Consultant Psychiatrist and addressing variety of acute mental health emergencies. This is a 40 bedded unit with provision for short and semi long stays 

2.Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences

It is one of the largest tertiary care centers in Hyderabad providing 24/7 medical and surgical care. This center facilitates providing of care for people with mental health needs also needing intervention from other medical and surgical specialties. 

3.HOPE TRUST

It started off as a primary long stay facility for individuals with alcohol and drug abuse disorders. Over a period of time, the focus has been on with individuals with “dual diagnosis”-suffering from a major mental health illness and substance abuse disorders. Dr. Vijay Seshadri leads the team which includes Psychiatrists, Psychologists and Counsellors trained in the “12 step model”. 

4.Chetana clinics

A primary outpatient center at AS Rao Nagar Secunderbad for treating mental health illnesses. This center is slowly evolving and will soon have other professionals from the mental health team including Counselors and Psychologists besides Psychiatrists.
